So, if it's not immediately obvious by my infrequent blogging, I procrastinate. It doesn't affect my work life, though, because there are deadlines to make. But it can make achieving things on the side very, very difficult.
I encountered Jeff Atwood's blog recently, and his entry talking about our brain wiring fascinated me.
Specifically, the section:on loss and closing doors (7. Capitalize on our Aversion to Loss)::
"Players just couldn't tolerate the idea of the loss, and so they did whatever was necessary to prevent their doors from closing, even though disappearance had no real consequences and could be easily reversed. We feel compelled to preserve options, even at great expense, even when it doesn't make sense."
Basically, I have this problem in spades. I get boiled down worrying that I'm closing off an important avenue by making a design decision. I don't know where this urge comes from, but it's detrimental to my ability to create.
